Mom came for a visit!
This blog is for Joe. Joe is a friend from college and Ben's Best Man. He was here visiting two weeks ago from Boston and told me that he checks this daily and I don't update it enough. Clearly this is true.
Ben and I have been settling into a routine now that I am working. We don't see each other much but we make the most of the time that we are together.
I had last week off of work and my mom did as well so she came for a visit. We spent a good deal of time on the invitation logistics (you will understand in February :) ). My dress is almost complete and I love it! We worked on finding bridesmaids dresses which has been quite the challenge. I hope to have them nailed down this week. It was so nice to see Mom and spend time with her!
Ben and I are going with our friends, Tara and Christopher, to Ferris' Homecoming next weekend. We are so excited to go back and visit our friends and take part in the Homecoming events. We did not take advantage of them while we were there but are looking forward to this year. Hopefully we will see Ben's parents while we are so close.
We are looking forward to the next few months and the holidays so we can see all of our families! We hope that things are going well with everyone.

Crazy Week!
This has been a very crazy week. Last Saturday I was back at Ferris to start my MBA. Ferris has an online MBA program that requires two Saturdays in Big Rapids and the rest is online. My concentration will be in Design and Innovation and will require a few more Saturdays in Grand Rapids. I am very excited to be starting the program!
Wednesday I had an interview with Association Management Center located northwest of us. It went very well and I received an offer! I am very excited to be working at this company. As the name implies, they manage associations and it will be a great way for me to see how an association operates as a whole. My hope is to transfer to the meetings department after learning a lot as the Account Administrator.
This weekend my mom came for a visit. We had quite the adventure on Saturday as we tried to run errands. So many of the roads were flooded and impassible. The amount of rain we received was unreal! Cars were completed submerged in places. I 94 had to be closed because of the amount of water on the road. Some people had to be evacuated from their homes. Our basement had standing water in it but done of our things were damaged. The ceiling in our dining room is wet and the paint is peeling. Ben's club had water in the basement and they lost some beer. We had the highest two day rain total ever. Most of the Midwest has been hit with this storm. We hope that all of our friends and family made it through dry!

Labor Day Update
Happy Labor Day!
Things have been busy around here. I have been working on getting all of the save the date cards out and still have about a quarter left. My mom and I have been working on the logistics of the invitations. They are my favorite project so far. Mom has continued to work on my dress and I love it! It is very exciting! The bridesmaids dress search continues...
On another note, I will start my MBA through Ferris next weekend. This is something I have recently realized the need for and am ready to get started but still a little nervous. I am very excited to go back to campus for a visit. I miss everyone there!
Have a great holiday!

Family
Ben and I are so excited that we have been able to see our families!
In the middle of July my parents came for a visit and we had a great time. We were able to do a lot of wedding things which was great! We had an amazing dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. It was a short weekend but it was great to see my parents. The first weekend in August, Julie and Jesse came for a visit. We had a lot of fun. We went to the Chicago Botanical Gardens which were breath taking. We also went to the Cheesecake Factory and had another fabulous meal. We went shopping and made a trip to Ikea. I love going there and dreaming about what I someday hope to have. Monday was Ben's company picnic. The weather was not the best but cleared once the picnic started and we were able to paddle boating. I forgot how much work that is. Afterwards, Julie took us to Sam's Club which was a great treat. The weather turned bad and then we heard on the radio that there were funnel clouds in the area. It was an interesting ride home but we were glad to be safe. Friday, we left for Manton to golf in the Outdoor Education Tournament with my brother and Ben's dad. It took us forever to get there but it was so worth it. We had an AMAZING time. We golfed on Saturday morning and had a blast. We were teamed up with four women that were hysterical. I think I spent more time laughing than golfing. Unfortunately, it poured most of the time we were golfing. We were so wet and cold. My parents arrived just as we finished and we met them back at Ben's parent's house. Sunday morning we went cannoning with 27 Powells. It was a great time besides the fact that it was cold. It only got up to 68. My parents unfortunately flipped their canoe shortly after we started so it pretty cold for them. Kelly jumped in to help so he was cold too. Michael flipped his kayak towards then end as well. It was a lot of fun.
It was so nice to see family! Hopefully we will see them more often now that Ben's schedule will start to slow down!

Dress
Ben and I have had the opportunity to travel a bit the past weeks. We went to Manton the last week in June and had a blast. We weren't there very long but made the most of it. Then I went back home for the fourth but Ben had to work. My mom and I were able to do a lot of wedding stuff which was great. The beautiful shoes I selected did not work out due to height but luckily I found new ones at half the price! Thursday, Mom and I went to the fabric store to have some wonderful ladies check the fit of the dress. Mom had to make a few minor changes and we returned on Sunday and purchased all of the fabric! I love it! I am so excited to see the dress completed which may be sooner rather than later as Mom was very excited and ready to cut into the fabric.
Ben and I spent this afternoon at Macy's working on our registry. We had a lot of fun but it was hard to make some of the decisions. Tomorrow we will be working on hotel room blocks and registering at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I am so excited to be doing all of this wedding stuff. I would like to get as much as possible done a head of time especially now that I will be starting my MBA in the fall. There is so much going on in our lives right now and we are enjoying every minute of it!

Googlepages
Here is the link for our googlepages website. It has more information regarding the details of our wedding and the vendors that we are using. I have been working on the program, save the date card, menu and placecards. I figured that I better use this free time wisely. Here are some pictures.
ericarogerson.googlepages.com
This is roughly what we would like our placecards to look like. Less white space at the top, the graphic smaller and the wording larger.
ericarogerson.googlepages.com
This a rough idea of what the program would look like. The paper is the wrong color (I think we might try this on teal paper), and there would be a ribbon at the top. Each page flips up.
Again, the wrong color paper. It should be a deeper paper but I had a lot of this paper lying around.

New Car

This week I had a revelation. I realized that Ben and I are old. I don't mean we're old in terms of years but rather in terms of responsibilities and decision making. Ben and I went out this past week and bought a car. We did not consult our parents or other people we highly respect. We actually made a huge purchase by ourselves. It was a very interesting experience. I am thrilled that our parent instilled knowledge and a sense of responsibility so that we feel comfortable making those decision but at the same time, it is all on us. It is overwhelming but so exciting. Ben had to say good-bye to the Monte but is very much enjoying the new car. It is a 2007 Honda Fit. It gets great gas mileage and gives us the room we need.
On a side note, we named our new cat Maia. She is doing well and our house has become crazy. Cats run around, get into things they shouldn't and yet we are having a blast! We truly enjoy Isis and Maia.

New addition
Today we added a new member to our family. She an adorable one year old cat. She is currently hiding from our other crazy cat, Isis. She has no name yet but hopes to have one soon. She is very loving and likes to come out and explore when she knows that Isis is no where to be found. The good thing is that if Isis does "attack" she puts Isis in her place. We adopted her from Petsmart and couldn't be more excited to have her with us. I hope she will soon be playing with Isis and puts on a little bit of weight. She is very skinny right now.

Wedding Band
Ben was lucky enough to have both this past Monday and Tuesday off. We spent Monday running errands. We happen to go by a Rogers and Hollands where Ben bought my engagement ring and decided to look at bands. We looked once before but couldn't find anything that went well with my ring. This time we found the perfect band. It was on sale and it was the last one they had. It was just too good to pass up so we bought it. I am so excited! I love it!! I will post a picture soon.
I also thought I would include my latest purchase. I finally (to my mom's relief) found wedding shoes. They are not tradiational but I love them. I have to squeeze teal in where ever I can.

Below are the links to our wedding page which just has basic information about our wedding.

I am also working on a google page as it is compatible with the wedding website, The Knot. This has more detailed information about who our vendors are and what we are planning. I will post the link as soon as I get it finished.
Have a good night!

First Blog
Our wedding is less than a year away and we couldn't be more excited. I decided to start blogging our journey. We are now far from many friends and family and would like to keep everyone in the loop of what is happening in our lives.
Three weeks ago we moved to Evanston, IL and are loving every minute of it. Ben has been working lots of hours as the Beverage Manager at Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest. He loves his job and they have just started the busy season which means many 14 hour days. I graduated from Ferris a few weeks ago and have been hard at work looking for a job as a meeting planner. When I am not checking for new job postings, I have been trying to get everything settled in our apartment. I forgot how much work it was to move. Hopefully we will be here for a while. Our apartment is the perfect size for us and the location is great. We are one block from the Metra and 3 blocks from the El. I have been learning the ropes of public transportation and love it.
We miss everyone back in Michigan but are loving our new home. Hope everyone is doing well!
